Eckerd Connects detects cybersecurity incident, exposing personal and health information

The organization reports that it responded right away by taking certain systems offline to contain the issue, and it brought in outside incident-response and forensic specialists to investigate what happened and determine the scope of any information exposure. According to Eckerd Connects, the investigation ultimately concluded that an unauthorized party may have accessed or acquired personal information during an eight day window between November 3, 2024 and November 11, 2024, though the organization says it did not complete its “extensive forensic investigation and manual document review” until November 17, 2025. The notice states the potentially impacted data could include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license/state ID numbers, tax identification numbers, and medical information (and it notes the incident involved information that may include HIPAA-defined protected health information). The public notice does not spell out the specific intrusion method (for example, whether it began with phishing, malware, or a software vulnerability), focusing instead on the detection, investigation, and what data may have been involved. Eckerd Connects says that, starting December 17, 2025, it began notifying people whose information may have been included in the files involved, and it provided “best practices” for protecting information. The notice also lists steps people can take to reduce risk, including monitoring health insurance “explanation of benefits” statements for unfamiliar services, obtaining and reviewing credit reports, and considering a fraud alert or security freeze with the major credit bureaus.
