Texas Health and Human Services Commission Notifies Additional 33,529 Individuals of Data Breach by Fired Employees

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) announced that an additional 33,529 recipients of state benefits had their private information improperly accessed by fired state employees. This brings the total number of individuals impacted by ongoing employee misconduct to approximately 94,000. The improper access occurred between June 2021 and January 2025. The compromised data varied by individual but included full names, home addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, Social Security numbers, Medicaid and Medicare identification numbers, employment, banking, and health insurance information. HHSC is offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to those affected.
