Volvo Group North America Discloses Data Breach via HR Supplier Miljödata Ransomware Attack

Volvo Group North America began notifying current and former employees on September 25, 2025, about a data breach stemming from a ransomware attack on its third-party HR software provider, Miljödata. The attack, attributed to the DataCarry ransomware group, occurred in August 2025, compromising personal information from Miljödata's Adato and Novi support systems. While Volvo's internal systems were not directly breached, the incident exposed employee names and Social Security numbers for some individuals. The breach had a wider impact, affecting approximately 25 private companies, numerous educational institutions, and around 200 Swedish municipalities that also used Miljödata's services. Volvo is offering affected individuals 18 months of free identity protection and credit monitoring services.
