Financial services firm Wealthsimple discloses data breach

Wealthsimple, a Canadian fintech firm, disclosed a data breach affecting less than 1% of its clients. The breach, detected on August 30, 2025, was traced to a compromised third-party software package. Exposed data included contact details, government-issued IDs, financial account numbers, Social Insurance Numbers (SINs), dates of birth, and IP addresses. No funds or passwords were compromised, and all customer accounts remained secure. The company notified impacted customers and offered two years of complimentary credit monitoring, dark-web monitoring, identity theft protection, and insurance.
